Cake:
1 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon fine salt
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 large egg, beaten
1/2 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Strawberries and Cream:
2 pints strawberries
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon confectioners’ sugar
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

For the cake: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Butter an 8-inch round cake pan, line it with parchment paper, butter the paper, and dust the pan lightly with flour.
Whisk the flour with the granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl. Lightly whisk in the butter, egg, milk, and vanilla, just until smooth. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 25 minutes. Cool on a rack for 10 minutes, then turn it out of the pan, flip upright, and cool completely on the rack.

For the strawberries and cream: Set aside 1 pint of the best-looking whole berries for topping the cake. Hull and thinly slice the rest of the berries and toss with the granulated sugar. Set aside. Whip the cream with the confectioners’ sugar and vanilla to soft peaks. Refrigerate until ready to use.

To assemble the cake: Cut the cake in half horizontally with a serrated knife. Place the bottom layer cut side up on a cake stand or serving plate. Drizzle the juices from the sliced berries over the cut sides of both halves. Fold a couple tablespoons of the whipped cream into the sliced berries and spread over the bottom layer. Top with the other piece of cake, cut side down. Spread the remaining whipped cream on the top of the cake and top the cake with the whole berries.

Know-How: Cutting a cake into layers is easy as saw-spin-separate: Begin to saw the cake in half horizontally. Just before you reach the middle of the cake, give it a quarter turn. Continue to saw almost to the center, then give it another quarter turn and saw again until you reach your original point of entry. Saw completely through the cake’s center and separate the layers.

It is said that Jennifer Lopez has done for the rear end what Pamela Anderson has done for the front end. Over the last few years the buttocks and abdomen have received more press coverage than ever before.

The brazilian butt lift is not just about big butts!.

The brazilian butt lift is a type of butt augmentation procedure which results in a youthful, prominent, perky buttocks and a more sensual body profile. People of all ages are having the butt lift procedure. Dr. Rodriguez removes fat from selected areas of your body, purifies the fat, then reinjects selected donor fat cells into your buttocks. The process of fat reinjection involves scores or hundreds of injections. The procedure is designed to fill the upper quadrant of your buttocks so that the butt appears lifted and perky. The resulting effect is that the woman appears more attractive and sensuous.

If I am more concerned with increasing the size of my buttocks, can I have butt implants instead? There are two different ways to enlarge your buttocks:
1) Brazilian Butt Lift: Fat injections or fat transfer to the butt
2) Butt Implants: Insertion of silicone implants

Dr. Rodriguez will recommend butt implants over the brazilian butt lift ONLY IF you are really tiny and have no body fat stored in your abdomen. If you have enough donor fat, Dr. Rodriguez prefers to augment the butt using fat injections-the brazilian butt lift. He believes that this method results in the most natural and sensual look for the buttock area. He only recommends butt implants if you are very tiny with no fat in your stomach or flank area. The fat transfer method has a lower risk of infection compared to the butt implant procedure.

An additional benefit of this fat injection method is that you not only get a more shapely buttock, but the area liposuctioned is now much leaner, giving your profile a more sensuous look. Dr. Rodriguez prefers the brazilian butt lift, as the combination of liposuction and fat injections produces the most attractive and natural profile.

How is the fat injected into the buttocks?

The buttock is first contoured by performing liposuction in the areas around the buttocks to make them stand out more. Common areas liposuctioned include the back- directly above the butt, the stomach, and the thighs. Note that even the liposuction alone will give your lower body a more attractive look.

The fat suctioned from these areas is carefully processed and purified such that only a fraction of the donor fat removed will qualify for re-injection to the buttocks. In order to get enough qualified fat, Dr. Rodriguez must liposuction at least 2 areas of your body. After liposuction, Dr. Rodriguez carefully purifies the fat so that only the best donor fat cells are reinjected back into your buttocks for augmentation. The fat is placed or transferred to the buttocks with special cannulas.

Dr. Rodriguez injects small amounts of purified fat into different areas of the buttocks and at various depths so that the patient will get the highest permanent absorption rate. Thus, the procedure usually involves ‘hundreds’ of micro fat injections. Correct injection methods are essential to achieve a uniform, smooth, natural appearance to the buttocks.

Palm Tran, Palm Beach County’s public transit service, along with Broward County Transit, Miami-Dade Transit, South Florida Commuter Services, Tri-Rail and the Florida Department of Transportation, will be participating in the third annual National Dump the Pump Day Thursday, June 19.

Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), National Dump the Pump Day encourages people to ride public transportation to save money, conserve gasoline, and help reduce greenhouse gases. Households with two workers and one car that use public transportation save an estimated $6,200 every year, compared to households with no access to public transportation. Public transportation also plays an important role in helping to reduce greenhouse gases.

By participating in National Dump the Pump Day, Palm Tran officials hope people who have never used public transportation will give it a try, instead of driving their car. As part of South Florida’s Dump the Pump campaign, lucky transit riders will receive a scratch-off card to be eligible for the chance to win $1,000 cash, a three-day/two-night Hawks Cay Resort getaway for two in the Florida Keys, tickets to Universal Studios in Orlando, Dunkin Donuts gift cards, transit passes and more. The scratch-off cards will be distributed during the morning of June 19 at select bus and train stations while supplies last.

To plan your trip in support of National Dump the Pump Day or to learn more about all commuter options, please call 1-800-234-RIDE

Boca applies for certification as ‘green’ friendly community
Assistant City Manager Mike Woika outlined the application process to the City Council at a workshop meeting last week.

“Boca Raton is a leader in sustainability,” he said, pointing out a term that’s become synonymous with “green” friendly.

He said Boca Raton has taken a lead in processing wastewater into reclaimed water. The city, he said, also practices “environmentally sensitive land acquisition, recycling and energy reduction.”

Woika told council members he is filling out the application to have Boca certified by the Florida Green Building Coalition, which has established Green Local Government Designation Standards.

Ironically, to go “green,” Boca is applying for a “silver” designation. Other, more stringent regulations are gold and platinum.

What the city will get from the designation, he said, “is the recognition that it has done things that are environmentally friendly.”

“We will go through a list of standards and see how we stack up,” he told the Boca Raton News after the meeting. “We want to see what others have done.”

He said it will take some 60 to 90 days to file the application. As part of the process, the city will be reviewed in 221 “credit” areas, with varying possible point totals in the areas of city administration, agriculture, building and development, economic development, emergency management and public safety, housing and human services, resource management, environmental protection, public works and engineering.

The application process also involves an in-house assessment, review and evaluation. The Florida Green Building Coalition assigns a project evaluator to meet with the city and verify the application forms.

To earn a “silver designation,” the city has to receive 20 to 40 percent of maximum applicable points. Gold certification requires 40 to 60 percent of applicable points and platinum status requires a tally of 61 percent or higher. Recertification is required every five years.

Woika said he feels the city can get the silver designation “without too much work.”

Rather than a “traditional” G-string, the C-string consists only of the front part of a thong-style pair of underwear, held up with a small piece of wire at the back. Conjuring up images of my Barbie-doll snap-on-clothing days, the idea of the C-string is that you pop it on using the wire, and it stays put without the strings.

According to the promotional blurb, it is “sexy, elegant and completely unique.” Their claim—legitimate for anyone who has battled to conceal thong lines under a clingy mini-dress—is that you wear it with outfits that demand a nonexistent panty-line but also underwear or even as a protective measure with swimwear to avoid unfortunate tan lines.

The Mail reporter, who road-tested the C-string, seemed less than impressed, claiming that “You need the limbs of Elle Macpherson to carry this look off” and “I’m afraid I just look as though I’m not wearing anything, which frankly looks worse.” Apparently the C-string is more realistic for red-carpet goers than real-life women.

Price: $20

RECIPE INGREDIENTS:
2 1/2 to 3 cups white icing
1 baked 13- by 9-inch cake
4 baked cupcakes
5 baked mini cupcakes
1/4 cup green icing
Green gel icing (optional)
Candy for decorations, such as spearmint leaves, colored sugar, colored nonpareils, LifeSavers Gummies, sour rings, jujubes, M&M’s Minis, and Jujyfruits
1. First, frost the 13- by 9-inch cake with the white icing. (Tester’s Tip: To avoid dark crumbs in the light-colored icing, we used a white cake and cupcakes.) Arrange the cupcakes and mini cupcakes (you can cut them in half horizontally for thinner flowers if you wish) on top of the cake, wherever you’d like a flower. Cover them with the white icing as well, including the sides.

2. Using a pastry bag (or a plastic bag with one small corner cut off), pipe a green icing stem for each flower. If you’d like, you can also add green gel icing grass. Place spearmint leaves along the icing stems, then decorate the cupcakes with colored sugar and candies to create a garden of colorful blooms. You can also pipe on dollops of icing, like some of the flowers.

Once those lazy days of summer arrive and the schedule is packed with swimming, camp, and family vacations, it can be a challenge to find time for learning. But you don’t have to let your child’s reading skills grow cold once school’s out. There are plenty of ways to make reading a natural part of your summer fun!

Explore the library. Visit your local library to check out books and magazines that your child hasn’t seen before. Many libraries have summer reading programs, book clubs, and reading contests for even the youngest borrowers. With a new library card, your child will feel extra grown up checking out books.

Read on the road. If you’re going on a long car trip, make sure the back seat is stocked with favorite reads. When you’re not at the wheel, read the books aloud. Get some audiobooks (many libraries have large selections) and listen to them together during drive time.

Make your own books. Ask kids what they like best about summer – maybe it’s baseball, ice cream, or the pool. Then have them draw pictures of it or cut out pictures from magazines and catalogs. Help them paste the pictures onto paper to make a booklet and write corresponding text. When you’re done, read the book together. Keep it on the bookshelf and reread it when you need to fend off the cold-weather blahs!

Keep in touch. You don’t have to go away to write about summer vacation. Even kids who are staying close to home can pick out postcards and use them to tell friends and relatives about summer adventures. Ask a relative to be your child’s pen pal and encourage them to write to each other regularly.

Keep up the reading rituals. Even if everything else changes during the summer, keep up your child’s reading routines. Read together every day – whether it’s just before bedtime or under a shady tree on a lazy afternoon. And everybody loves to read at the beach. Just brush the sand off the pages. It’s no sweat!

As agents, we can pull from several sources to determine average time on the market from time of listing to accepted offer.

These statistics vary depending on interest
rates, price range, local economics, and other factors.

Once an offer is received and accepted, the sale may take from 30 to 60 days to close, depending on the financing.

Therefore, to determine when to put your home on the market, decide the date you’d like to move and work backward from there. Real Estate agents look at the average time on the market for properties in your price range and the type of financing available. This will help determine the time frame you will need.

Why: As the countdown to Sex and the City: The Movie continues (May 30th, people), it seems as if this city has become utterly punch drunk with everything SATC. From magazine features to character lingerie, we just can’t get enough of our four leading ladies.

So it didn’t really get our panties in a bunch (pardon the pun) when we found out you can now purchase the same pearl thong - not the EXACT same - that Richard gave Samantha in Episode 69 (pardon someone else’s pun). Lingerie company, Bracli, is offering the elaborate - and apparently stimulating - thong just in time for the movie premiere. And from how Samantha raves about it in the show, I’m thinking it might be worth the 60 bucks. As long as I don’t use the stairs.

And by the way - you adventurous types can purchase a double-strand thong for only $12 more. What a bargain!

Because boobs are out. Yes. Out. That natural (or bought) curve that brings the boys to the yard is on high style’s “icky and trashy” list. So, it’s time to remove them, box them up with some mothballs, and save them for next season.

Vogue’s fashion director Lucinda Chambers makes it clear that a girl’s best assets are worse than last season: they are over, over, over, and must be disguised at all costs. In the latest edition she tells a full-chested writer who wants to know how the new spring look will work for her: ‘You need a minimizer bra.’ She brooks no negotiation.

Do you think those in charge of fashion have gone a little far in creating a negative connotation for everything that delineates female from male, woman from girl. Anyone else find this slightly ridiculous? Maybe next season fashion will either demand that women balloon to 300 pounds but maintain tiny ankles…or just be honest and explain that having two X chromosomes is totally passé.

Host a Wine-Tasting Party: Introduce New Cultures Through Food and Wine

What You’ll Need
Platters, Table, Glassware, plates, bowls, small forks and wine bottles, Boards and marble slabs, Small containers, Scorecards: customize and print from your computer, Food: a sampling of Spanish cheeses (manchego, sheep’s milk, and a blue), crostini with toppings, meats (salami, proscuitto, pepperoni, etc.), olives, peppers, breads (bread sticks, crackers, etc.) with dipping sauces, sun-dried tomato spread and tapenade as well fruits (dried apricots, dates, figs, pears) and nuts (Marcona almonds, walnuts)Beverages: Spanish wines, water, sparkling waterMood/Decor

Go with rustic, modern and casual for your theme. Olive green, linen and cream with woods and metal should make up your color palette.

Location
In your kitchen — ideally it should have a tall, bar-type table and stools, and a kitchen island for all the wines to sit on.

Set-Up
Create several cheese sampling platters for the table by pairing small pieces of cheese with fruit or nuts. Also offer a dessert cheese/fruit nut option as well.

Make the crostini toppings with sun-dried tomato spread or tapenade. Assemble the charcuterie platter using pantry items. Arrange cured meats on several small platters, boards and marble slabs around the table.

Arrange glassware, plates and wine bottles amid the food, water and wine selection on the table.

Put bread, breadsticks and crackers in small containers so they can be placed in multiples down the table.

Give guests a scorecard to rate the wine selection.

People who are enchanted with your home the moment they walk in are most likely to buy the home, and at a fair price.

Here are some tips to help maximize the appearance of your home:

* Turn on the lights to create a warm glow and remove the shadows.
* Make sure the windows are clean and open the curtains or blinds.
* Keep the kitchen and baths clean and sparkling. Don’t leave dishes in the sink.
* Remove all clutter, make the beds, and pick up toys.
* Pack away items that may detract from a buyer’s ability to mentally move into your
home such as family pictures or teen posters.
* Make the closets look bigger by packing up the clothes you are not using.
* Create a relaxing atmosphere with soft music.
* Make people feel at home with homey scents such as freshly baked cookies or bread
or good potpourri.
* Check for pet odors and keep pets safely out of the way when your house is being
shown.
* Clean out your basement and garage and neatly stack boxes you have stored there.
* Add charm and appeal with fresh flowers and plants.

Set the stage to show your home to its best advantage.

This is a general outline of the milestones on the road to reading and the ages at which most kids reach them.

Keep in mind that kids develop at different paces and spend varying amounts of time at each stage. If you have concerns, talk to your child’s doctor, teacher, or the reading specialist at school. Early intervention is key in helping kids who are struggling to read.

Infancy (Up to Age 1)
Children usually begin to:
imitate sounds they hear in language
respond when spoken to
look at pictures
reach for books and turn the pages with help
respond to stories and pictures by vocalizing and patting the pictures

Toddlers (Ages 1–3)
Children usually begin to:
answer questions about and identify objects in books — such as “Where’s the cow?” or “What does the cow say?”
name familiar pictures
use pointing to identify named objects
pretend to read books
finish sentences in books they know well
explore books independently
listen to longer books that are read aloud
retell a familiar story
recite the alphabet
begin to sing the alphabet with prompting and cues
make continuous symbols that resemble writing
imitate the action of reading a book aloud

Late Preschool (Age 4)
Children usually begin to:
recognize familiar signs and labels, especially on signs and containers
make up rhymes or silly phrases
recognize and write some of the letters of the alphabet
read and write their names
name letters or sounds that begin words
use familiar letters to try writing words

Kindergarten (Age 5)
Children usually begin to:
understand rhyming and play rhyming games
match some spoken and written words
understand that print is read from left to right, top to bottom
write some letters and numbers
recognize some familiar words
predict what will happen next in a story
retell stories that have been read to them

First and Second Grade (Ages 6–7)
Children usually begin to:
read familiar stories
sound out or decode unfamiliar words
use pictures and context to figure out unfamiliar words
use some common punctuation and capitalization in writing
self-correct when they make a mistake while reading aloud
show comprehension of a story through drawings

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines: “The Great Age of American Automobiles” is roaring into the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale. On display through June 23, the exhibition showcases the beauty and ingenuity of American automotive design during the decades following World War II. Drawn from the collection of Jean S. and Frederic A. Sharf, this installation features an eclectic mix of illustrations, ranging from preliminary sketches to fully rendered works intended for presentation to company executives. Some of the drawings offer concepts that would later be incorporated into specific models, while others represent futuristic ideas that never made it past the drawing board. Dating from an era when design and appearance were increasingly important factors in automotive sales, there are ample references to the shapes of airplanes and rockets, along with other emerging technologies that influenced postwar car design. Additionally, with the support of AutoNation, the Museum will present a select group of rare vintage cars from the 1950s and 1960s, some of which are one-of-a-kind prototypes. Among the classic examples of Americana scheduled for display will be the 1962 Ford Mustang concept car, the 1959 Cadillac Cyclone, the 1965 Plymouth Barracuda, the 1963 Chrysler Turbine and the Chrysler 300.

Admission is $10 for adults; $7 for children 6–17, seniors (65 and older) and military (with I.D.); admission is free for museum members and children 5 and under.

Now in its 40th year, the St. Patrick’s Day parade and party will return to downtown Delray Beach for a day full of Irish fun. This year will honor the parade’s founding father, Maury Powers. As legend has it, 40 years ago, and spending his first St. Patrick’s Day in South Florida, Powers lamented the lack of any local celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. With just a little encouragement from his pals—and a bit of Irish whisky—he took up the challenge to have an impromptu parade right then and there. Powers left for a few minutes, only to return with his top hat and shillelagh and began a solitary stroll up the middle of Atlantic Avenue (much to the delight of his drinking buddies and chucklin
