ON SALE IN DELRAY BEACH
DELRAY BEACH, FL (November 2007) - First Night® 2008 buttons will go on sale in Delray Beach on Thursday, November 29, 2007. This year’s button will commemorate the tenth anniversary of Delray Beach’s First Night celebration. Buttons, which serve as admittance to all events on New Year’s Eve, are $10 in advance and $15 on New Year’s Eve.
Delray Beach’s First Night will commemorate its tenth anniversary celebration with a
limited edition button featuring multi-colored blinking lights. The artwork for this year’s button was designed by artist Paul Smith.
First Night children’s activities will kick off at 4:00 p.m. at Veterans Park, followed bthe People’s Procession from Veterans Park to Old School Square at 6:00 p.m. Live entertainment and activities for adults and children will continue following the Procession. There will be a kid’s finale at 9:00 p.m. at the Tennis Center, complete with music, fireworks and Delray Beach’s infamous Ping Pong Ball Drop. The party will continue until midnight and will culminate with another finale when the clock strikes 12.
The final canvas for “Countdown to First Night” will be unveiled on New Year’s Eve.
33 canvases painted by the community will be unveiled one at a time on each evening between the Famous 100-Foot Tree Lighting Ceremony on November 29 and First Night 2008. The canvases will be hung in a calendar formation on the south side of the Old School Square Parking Garage to count down the days until the New Year. First Night Delray Beach is an affordable, family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration of the arts.
