Unique & Decorative Lamp Shades… Can Liven Up Any Room in your Home

Are you looking for something that will bring out the beauty and authenticity of your home decor?

What about a pair of quality, handmade, lamp shades?

Each lamp shade is designed with the care and attention to every detail involved to ensure the highest level of beauty and quality. These lamp shades are promised to be one of a kind, never does the designer remake the same style. At most, she will create a pair of them, if requested of the person ordering the shade. The lamp shades speak for themselves.

Wonder what makes thes shades so unique?

Well it all starts with the fact that the designer looks for unusual high quality fabrics and trims. She likes to use brocades, silks, satin, lace, appliques, and crstal beading.

The designer can custom make you a shade by either you giving her your fabrics or you can let the designer pick out the fabrics for you. Just let her know your colors and style that you want.

If you have a lamp in your home with a solid plain shade and you love the base then you can give her the shade to decorate as well.

Additionally, she has several lamps with pre-made shades for sale. She also designs night lites and mini shades for chandeliers.

If you are interested in purchasing a pre-made lamp shade or just want custom, then you can contact Alana Rose Designs at (561) 302-5857 located in South Florida and she will be happy to work with you. Let her know that you found her on AskBonnie.com

How to Set a Formal Table…

The way a table is set contributes to the ambiance of a meal as much as the food and the wine. A few simple guidelines will help you establish the tone you want.

Glasses
Each place should be set with all the glasses that will be used during dinner (except dessert-wine glasses, which may be brought out when the dessert is served). The water glass belongs to the right of the plate, just above the knife. Wineglasses should be set to the right of the water glasses in the order in which they will be used.

China
The only pieces of china that should be part of a table setting are the bread plate and a charger, if desired. A charger (or service plate) is a purely decorative oversize plate used to add texture, color, or pattern to the table. Chargers may be made of china, pewter, brass — even straw or papier-mache. Food is never served directly on a charger, but a first-course soup bowl or salad plate can be set on top of it. The charger should be cleared along with the bowl or plate.

Silverware
A proper silverware setting follows one simple rule, no matter how formal or relaxed the event: Set the silverware on the table in the order it will be used, from the outside in. The fork for the first course is the one farthest to the left; to the right of the plate, the knife for the first course is the farthest to the right. Any spoons needed before dessert (say, a soupspoon), should be placed to the right of the knives. Dessert utensils should always be placed horizontally above the plate, or they can be brought in later, with the dessert course.

Glassware:
1. Water glass
2. Red-wine glass
3. White-wine glass
4. Champagne flute
5. All-purpose glass

China:
1. Dinner plate
2. Salad plate
3. Cup
4. Saucer
5. Bread-and-butter plate
6. Charger
7. Dessert plate
8. Soup bowl

Flatware:
1. Salad fork
2. Dinner fork
3. Dinner knife
4. Soupspoon
5. Teaspoon
6. Butter knife
7. Fish fork
8. Fish knife
9. Dessert fork

Table Setting
While a harmonious table maintains a uniform level of formality, creating a mix-and-match table from your collections of china, glassware, and silverware is appropriate on many occasions — and has the benefit of providing you with a unique table setting for each event. Just keep in mind that something should tie the elements together: If you combine dishes and flatware from different periods and styles, make sure that they share similar proportion or complementary lines.

Dessert Table Setting
When dessert is served, all wineglasses (except dessert-wine glasses), bread plates, and salt and pepper shakers should be cleared from the table. Dessert flatware can either be set above the dinner plate or charger at the initial table setting, or it can be carried in on a tray at dessert time, along with coffee cups and saucers. Water glasses remain on the table for the duration of the meal.

Hot Home Products for 2007

These items drew attention at this year’s International Builders’ Show:

ORLANDO, Fla. (MarketWatch) — Those who walked the exhibit halls at the International Builders’ Show in Orlando had the opportunity to glimpse a plethora of the latest in home products, enough glitzy displays to make owners of even the most modern houses envious.
Advanced technology and everyday practicality played a role in many an eye-catching item at the show.

Below are some items that caught alot of attention:

A swipe of a finger opens the Kwikset biometric scanning deadbolt, displayed at the show. The fingerprints of 50 users can be stored in the device that operates on four double-A batteries and will sell for about $200. Select Home Depot stores in New York, Orlando and San Diego are selling them already; the lock will be available at home retailers nationwide in June.

TurboChef displayed a Speedcook oven that will cook a 12-pound turkey in 42 minutes instead of four hours, and will shave an hour off the time it takes to bake an apple-cranberry pie. In addition to its speedy performance, the oven’s brightly colored doors in hues including red, orange and blue set it apart in a sea of stainless steel appliances. The 30-inch oven has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $7,495.

How about an oven that can take instructions over the Internet? The Connect IO Intelligent Oven from TMIO is so smart it can keep your roast cool all morning and then cook it to perfection once you tell it to start from work or wherever. It has “cook now” or “cook later” modes, and also operates as a fast-cooking convection oven. Not sure it’s behaving while you’re away? The oven will e-mail you once it starts heating your dinner, telling you what time to be home.

Forget about a regular shower head — Kohler is selling a shower experience. The DTV Custom Showering Experience allows homeowners to personalize their shower through a panel that resembles an iPod, mounted on the bathroom wall. Homeowners can angle numerous shower heads and adjust the temperature to their liking, and then save the scheme for future showers. The digital interface for the shower system starts at about $1,039; the six-port thermostatic valve starts at about $1,102.

Two new clothes washers from Amana feature antimicrobial component protection that resists mold, mildew and odor-causing bacteria. The Enlighten Series features a front-load washer, and became available in January, while the Traditional Series, featuring a top-load washer, became available in December. The estimated retail price for the Traditional washers range from $399 to $499; an Enlighten washing machine retails at $799. In late July, the company will begin selling its antimicrobial dishwasher; expect other kitchen products with the feature in the future.

Also prevalent at the show: residential elevators. A number of companies displayed their elevators at the show, including ThyssenKrupp Access. Prices on home elevators vary by specifications including the number of floors they serve, but according to ThyssenKrupp’s Web site, its Lev model starts at about $15,000.

For those who have trouble coordinating their interior decorating, Design House of Mequon, Wis., has created a series of coordinated design packages that bring together matched lighting, ceiling fans, locksets, door hardware, bath accessories and faucets. For a contemporary look, for instance, select the Chablis set and let your contractor do the rest.
And for those who have trouble coordinating their burgeoning multimedia devices, Best Buy has teamed up with Lifeware to provide a Connected Home package that ties in many of your most commonly used devices. The package, which retails for $15,000 and is being marketed to builders who would install it in new or remodeled homes, includes a media server, flat-panel HDTV, software, wireless access, digital thermostats and heating controls, surveillance camera and lighting dimmers and switches. Once hooked up, you can control the home’s systems from the TV screens. A great feature: You can watch a program in the living room, put it on pause when you head to sleep and return to the exact spot in the program once you’ve brushed your teeth and put on your pajamas and hopped into bed.

It beats singing in the shower. MTI Whirlpools offers its Antigua brand of freestanding tubs that includes air bath, chromatherapy and Stereo H2O, “an invisible audio system that delivers full-bodied sound through the tub.” There is also the Neptuner from Quebec-based Neptune, which works much the same way in sending audio waves through the shell of the bathtub, turning the whole thing into one big surround-sound speaker.
