Spring Fashion 2008 = Classic Elegance
Spring 2008 promises to be something we haven’t seen in years. Classic elegant styles are matched with feminine details and tailored seperates. Dozens of designers have showcased their collections in front of the world.
For 2008, we’ve gone back in time to the 40’s and 50’s. High waisted bottoms replace the sea of low riders we’ve been seeing of late. Hot pants get shorter and higher. Fabric button details add definition to the classic pant. Wider legged trousers are being traded out for sleek straight leg styles. Brown and grey continue to take over for classic black. Skirts and dresses outnumber trousers, for a more feminine overall look. Trousers are defined by flat front fits and suspenders are seen often. Suit seperates include shorter, wide bottom jackets with pleat details.
Skirts and dresses are a big hit for spring. Warmer weather allows for lighter fabrics, and brighter colors. The color palette for spring includes muted neutrals like mocha and grey. The spring collection for almost all designers brings the outside in with floral and leaf patterns. Lilac, pink, and butter yellow are the accent colors seen most with splashes of marigold and teal. In contrast to the fall, sheers are present in most items, with crochet and stitching details. Dresses include sheer, flowing fabrics in light airy colors of cream, buttercup, and pale pink. These spring dresses have two distinct hemlines. They’re either very short, or long and draped. High on the thigh, or barely grazing the floor. Dress details included belted waists, and fabric buttons.
Blouses are both night and day for spring. Blouses lose the fullness of fall, and concentrate on tighter fits. Defined stitching, higher buttons, and sashes at the neck provide more coverage. Short vests are also seen across the board layered over light sheer blouses. Cream, white, buttercup, and mocha are the foundation for spring, but blouses and tees hold the sparkle for most collections. Teal, lilac, champagne, and pink are paired with contrasting colors and patterns for added flare. Grass green, bold yellow, and bright bubblegum pink serve a punch of color.
Accessories are the necessity for the season. Belts, sashes and scarves, florettes in bold colors, and long necklaces are an important staple. Every outfit is accessorized with at least 3 pieces. High waisted dresses include belts with sparkle, large florettes on the shoulder, and draped scarves in the hair. Sheer ankle socks are worn with high heels.
Jewel toned blouses in sheer floral fabrics from fall will continue to work through early spring. Dresses for spring have similar details and designs, with lighter colors than fall. So, hold on to today’s items. They’ll be the foundation pieces for spring.
