Things to do with the Kids during the winter break 2007
1. THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ
Through Jan. 20. Cornell Museum of Art and American Culture, Old School Square, 51 N. Swinton Ave., Delray Beach.
The exhibit includes memorabilia, posters, books, articles, photographs, collectibles, original and replica costume pieces, props, original lobby cards and some surprises! Items on loan from the Oz Museum in Wamego, Kan., include color stills of selected munchkin characters from the Wizard of Oz, a musical score from 1947, a Madame Alexander doll commemorating Dorothy (1991 release) and a variety of Wizard of Oz collectibles. An extensive collection of collectibles is also on loan from private collector, Mary Roberts of upstate New York. Vintage reproductions of Dorothy’s dress and ruby slippers are on loan from John Henson, a collector and costumer for the hit Broadway show, Wicked. 561-243-7922, ext. 322.
2. ROBOBUGS: INVASION OF THE GIANT INSECTS
Through Jan. 9. Museum of Discovery and Science, 401 SW Second Ave., Fort Lauderdale. A traveling exhibit of huge, robotic arthopods, 40 to 600 times their actual size. 3. OH SEUSS! OFF TO GREAT PLACES
Through April 2008. Miami Children’s Museum, 980 MacArthur Causeway, Miami. The whimsical world of Dr. Seuss comes to life with rhyming fun and more than 4,000 square feet of quirky displays. Twenty-five activity areas pay homes to books such as Green Eggs and Ham, Horton Hatches and Egg and Oh the Places You’ll Go. 4. THE DINOSAURS OF CHINA
Through May 2008. Miami Museum of Science and Planetarium, 3280 S. Miami Ave., Miami. See the first collection of Chinese dinosaur fossils to come to the United States. Miami Science Museum has joined with the Beijing Museum of Natural History to exhibit 14 articulated, full dinosaur skeletons and 52 spectacular individual specimens, including eight of the most rare feathered dinosaurs and birds from the fossil beds at Liaoning. Together with unique fully sculpted models, interactive and multimedia experiences, and a children’s paleo-discovery area, these magnificent creatures will come alive for South Florida families at this once-in-a-lifetime event. 5. WEATHER OR NOT: ARE YOU PREPARED?

6. 9th Annual Children’s Winter Fair scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Patch Reef Park, located on Yamato Road, just west of Military Trail.
Various activities have been planned for children, including games, arts and crafts, contests, stage entertainment, clowns, kiddie rides, face painting and balloon art, among other things.
Community resource support groups will also exhibit and share information with families. Admission to the event is free, with nominal charges for some activities and ride tickets. Food will be available for purchase throughout the day.
