Bathing Suit Buying Tips

Accentuate the positive whether you are fan of the bikini, tankini or one piece. It is important to select colors and textures that compliment you. Bathing suit silhouette is important but so is finding a suit that will go with your skin color. Medium to bright colors look great on fair skin, while pale colors and pastels can tend to wash you out. If you have a medium or darker skin tone avoid some yellows and try bright colors like turquoise, coral and white. Stripes and patterns can also flatter the figure by drawing attention to the positives. The right fabric is also important and can work with whatever bathing suit style you choose, whether your goal is trying to conceal or accentuate your assets.

To cover or not to cover
Cover ups are a fabulous way to look and feel chic while on vacation, without looking over exposed. The key trends in cover ups are tunics with special detailing like beading and embroidery. What is great about tunics is that they are great for the beach, for lounging or walking the board walk, but can even be paired with sassy cropped pants and worn to the office.

Comfort is key
When selecting a bathing suit there are really no set rules. You know what you feel comfortable in. If you are not comfortable in the dressing room, you wont be comfortable on the beach. If you need a bathing suit for function, try and stay away from swimsuits that are complicated (string bikinis, for example, can provide less coverage on top and bottom, which may not be practical if you are jogging on the beach.) If being seen is on your agenda play up different textures and styles, which will provide more of a fashion twist than plain suits.

If it doesn’t fit you mustn’t quit
Try and buy one size up from your regular dress size when you are trying on suits. Because bathing suits can tend to fit on the smaller size, a great trick is to make sure that there is about 1″ from the strap and your shoulder. This will ensure that the bathing suit compliments your torso properly. Depending on your body type, make sure that you have the correct bra support. Simply adding padding is not enough; make sure that there is enough support all around.

Material Girl
Quality bathing suit fabric is essential in making sure that you are buying a swimsuit that will fit well, look great and last. Well made bathing suits should contain Lycra/Spandex, so that they do not loose their shape. If you are going to spend substantial time in the water, try to get a suit that has been treated for chlorine. This will ensure that you can have your bathing suit for many seasons. Bathing suits can be expensive so you want to make sure that you are you are investing in quality.
