Grassy Waters:a City’s Wild and Natural Preserve
Grassy Waters Preserve is a wilderness within a city; 20 square miles of wetlands form a natural boundary to West Palm Beach. Several years ago trails, boardwalks and visitor pavilions were built on the preserve, encouraging awareness of these beautiful wetlands. The wetland can also be explored by canoe or tromping through the swamp. If the water table is high enough in April, a naturalist from Grassy Waters will join us on a 3-hour paddle through this important Florida ecosystem (if canoeing is not possible, we’ll go on a “swamp tromp”). Wear clothes that can get wet. We also recommend binoculars, sunscreen, and insect repellant. Please pack a picnic lunch. Water and snacks will be provided. Note: participants should be familiar and comfortable canoeing. Transportation provided.
Open to all ages; Children must be accompanied by adult.
